Bed Bugs

Preparation Method #1 (minimal residential preparation) :

• The resident does NOT prepare for initial service other than providing access for pest control technician.

• Make sure technician can have access to all closets.

• If possible, move bedroom furniture away from walls so there is three feet space between furniture and walls. The bedbug environment is left undisturbed so that the technician can better evaluate the infestation. An added advantage is that this method eliminates the risk that bedbugs will be disturbed by residents during preparation, and possible to be dispersed throughout the apartment.

   

• During the initial service, the technician strips the bed, pulls items from closets and drawers, and place these items in sealed in plastics bags.

• After service, the resident must deal with these bagged items as appropriate: wash and dry all washable items, dry non-washable items in a clothes dryer, heat treat items, or have the items dry cleaned (residents must inform the dry cleaners about the risk of bedbugs).

• NOTE: work done by technician is charged accordingly 

Preparation Method #2 (thorough resident preparation):

• Remove all sheets, blankets, mattress covers, pillow cases, etc. from bed and wash and dry them (high heat).
• Fold them and place them in a tied-off plastic bag.
• Do Not put them back on bed until the evening after pest control service.
• Wash and dry all washable clothing, towels, and other linens.
• Place the clean items inside sealed plastic storage bins or plastic garbage bags.
• Store them in the living room until after treatment.
• If clothes or fabrics require dry cleaning, inform the cleaners about bedbug risk.
• Remove everything from bedrooms and closets in any other room where bedbugs have been observed or occupants believe they have been bitten.
• Empty all dresser drawers and night stand drawers. Remove all clothing, toys, boxes, etc. from bedroom floors. Place items in living room , or in places not infested with bedbugs.
• Provide access for pest control technician.
• Make sure the technician can get into all closets.
• If possible, move bedroom furniture away from walls so there is a 3 foot space between the furniture and walls.
